Staff Benda Bilili

Picture
The members of Staff Benda Bilili, a band from the Democratic Republic of Congo, are all polio survivors.  The group of paraplegic street musicians who live around the grounds of the zoo in Kinshasa, Congo comprise four singers / guitarists on makeshift wheelchairs who are supported by a young, all-acoustic rhythm section, plus a 17 year-old prodigy performing infectious guitar-like solos on a one-string electric lute he designed and built himself out of a tin can. See an English subtitled  video clip of the group's song, Polio, on YouTube clip.
